Symon Tranter

Managing Director

Symon joined L Tranter & Son on a full-time basis in 1988 and soon began studying for his Diploma in Funeral Directing, qualifying in 1991.  Taking over the day to day running of the business in 1995 he further continued his professional development by becoming a full member of the British Institute of Embalmers in 2003 and gaining his Diploma in Funeral Service Management in 2006 thus becoming the only funeral director in Shropshire to hold all three recognised industry qualifications.

Having introduced Pre-Paid Funeral Planning to the company in the early 1990s Symon has since twice been named Regional Funeral Planner of the year.

John Tranter

Chairman

Following a short spell at the Lilleshall Company, John joined his father and grandfather in the family business in 1956 and soon realised his interest lay firmly in the funeral industry. By 1967 he had started to offer the local community a complete funeral service and had begun the much needed modernisation of the business.

After more than half a century of service to the local community, John has finally retired from his daily duties within the business, he does however continue his role as Chairman of L Tranter & Son.

Owain Phelps

Funeral Director

Owain joined L. Tranter & Son as a Trainee Funeral Director in 2014. Born and bred a Shropshire Lad, Owain went to school locally in Wellington but travelled a little further afield when he studied for his Law degree at Wolverhampton University.

He worked for 14 years in Solicitors offices across Shropshire and the Midlands and held a senior position in a top ranked Midlands Barristers Chambers, before embarking on his new challenge back in Shropshire, allowing him to spend more time with his young family.

Following his training in a Funeral Operative role, including Coffin preparation, vehicle valeting and preparing the deceased for chapel of rest visits, Owain moved into a full-time office role where he has trained in all aspects of Funeral administration. Having spent time at our Memorial Showroom in Donnington, tailored Funeral Plans to clients wishes and successfully arranged and conducted many funerals for all faiths, Owain has gained a huge amount of experience in his first few years with our company. This experience and knowledge has been supported by the industry qualifications he has gained along the way. Having passed his Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration with Distinction in 2017 and his Diploma in Funeral Directing in 2018 Owain is now a fully qualified Funeral Director.

Olivia Tranter

Funeral Director

Olivia Tranter became the 6th Generation of the Tranter Family to join the business when she started working part time at L Tranter & Son in the summer of 2019. Following studying for her GCSE’s and ‘A’ Levels Olivia took a year out, where she put her Gymnastics coaching qualification to good use by working at Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club. Olivia has now started at Reading University where she is studying for her degree in English Literature with Classical Studies. During the holidays Olivia will continue to work at our head office in St Georges where she will concentrate on updating our literature and furthering our Internet presence.
